Los Angeles - Darlene Egelhoff, mom to newlywed Heidi Montag, is speaking out about her daughter’s elopement in Mexico and her true feelings about new son-in-law Spencer Pratt.
“He’s manipulative and seems to have power over Heidi,” Egelhoff tells the Us Weekly. “Spencer has tried to cut everyone out of her life. I’ve been honest with Heidi, and it’s caused our relationship to decline. I’m more devastated about that than the marriage, because I’m confident the marriage won’t work out.”
Egelhoff, 46, says the couple will only last six more months.
“God says love your enemies, but I never expected it to be my son-in-law… I think it’s the biggest mistake Heidi’s ever made.”
Today Pratt went on the Ryan Seacrest show to defend his new marriage.
“It was totally spur of the moment,” Pratt told Seacrest’s KIIS-FM radio show. “If I had planned it, I think I would’ve stepped up my ring game a little bit,” he added referring to the $8 rings the couple bought while in Mexico.
Pratt says Egelhoff is acting “crazy” because she wasn’t invited.
“She’s just hurt and reacting crazy because she wasn’t there. I can’t wait to prove her wrong and be married for the rest of our lives.”
The couple have been dating since 2006 and can currently be seen on MTV’s “The Hills”.
