Los Angeles - Vanessa Hudgens, starlet of “High School Musical,” is the latest actress rumored to be in the running for the role of werewolf Leah Clearwater in the anticipated “Twilight” sequel “Twilight: New Moon.”

According to a statement given by “Twilight” actress Ashley Greene given to MTV at an after party for the 66th Golden Globes Awards this past Sunday, January 11, 20 year old Hudgens auditioned for the part.

Greene, who played Alice Cullen in the film adaptation of the first novel in Stephenie Meyer’s popular “Twilight” series, said she’d be delighted to star alongside the “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” starlet. “I think she’d be great,” she exclaimed to an MTV reporter.

Although she’s gained fame for her role as Gabriella Montez in the Disney Channel “High School Musical” film series, Hudgens is perhaps best known for her September 2007 nude photo scandal. Several nude photos, taken on a camera phone for her costar and boyfriend Zac Efron, were leaked to the public by a third party and which, though initially questioned as to their authenticity, were confirmed to be real soon after their release. Hudgens later apologized for her indiscretion, and rumors that she would be dropped from the wholesome, child-oriented Disney series as a result of the suggestive photos proved false.

Hudgens received her film debut in the 2003 flick “Thirteen” and also appeared in the 2004 film “Thunderbirds” before taking on her most famous movie role in the “High School Musical” series. Her debut album “V” was released in September 2006, earning her the Choice Female Breakout Singer award at the 2007 Teen Choice Awards. This was followed up by the 2008 album “Identified.”
