New York - Have you heard the news? There is possibly new hope for those who have lost their sex drive with a new testosterone patch. This patch is driven towards women and their lack of libido.

It is proven that after a woman goes through menopause, either naturally or surgically, they experience a decrease in their libido.

It is thought that the decrease in hormone levels are the cause of this decreased sex drive; therefore, much research has been placed on what hormone supplements can do for this problem.

“This is the first study to show that when used alone, testosterone administered by a skin patch significantly improves sexual well-being in postmenopausal women,” said the study’s lead author, Dr. Susan R. Davis, a professor of women’s health at Monash University in Australia.

The studies of this new testosterone patch have not proved to be without problems yet. The use of the male hormone to increase female sex drive seems to have some risks.

One study revealed that out of 814 women, four of them developed breast cancer.

Researcher do not know if the testosterone patch caused the cancer or if they would have developed cancer anyway due to family history. Many physicians agree that anytime hormones are supplemented, for any reason, cancer is a major risk. Davis belives that the women who did develop breast cancer, likely had the disease prior to the study.

“We have carefully considered this, and we believe the likelihood is that this is a chance finding,” Davis said.

Some of the women also developed excess hair growth; however, they did not stop using the hormone as the sex drive was considered worth the extra waxing they might have to do.

Many argue that sex for a female begins long before the bedroom. This statement is true for most, and it is why it has been so hard developing a method for increased sexual drive for the female body. This also suggests that perhaps a chemical or hormone decrease is not the main cause for decreased libido. Perhaps natural ways to boost a sex drive would prove better than a hormone patch. Many women claim that if they came home to a clean house, clean kids and a dinner on the table they would be ready to ravish their husband.

Which method for increasing sex drive will certainly be individually based. If the new testosterone patch could provide a much needed boost in female sex drive, perhaps it is worth a try. After all, what good is it to have male pills and lotions if there isn’t a woman with a drive for sex? On the flip side, if the testosterone patch gives you a beard, the male sex drive may diminish!
The study is published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
