Los Angeles - Imagine a world where you can look @ full length Hollywood movies on your PC? Yeah I know it’s old news. Through innovations in broadband, Hulu and Fancast have become staples in the favorite pages of computer/TV lovers.
So it just makes sense that the leading Video sharing website, YouTube would be the next company to premiere full length movies. That’s right! Rumored to hit your LCD screens as early as next month, you will be able to watch movies on YouTube.
CNET reportedly broke the story this month. Now as usually nothing is really free. And there is some bugs that may need to be worked out before Google can advance to this potentially lucrative move.
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios (MGM) have announced they will be the first major studio to partner with the hugely popular video sharring site. Initally, they will show old episodes of “American Gladiators” along along with full-length films like “Bulletproof Monk” and “The Magnificent Seven” and clips from popular movies like “Legally Blonde.”
YouTube also recently forged deals with Lionsgate and CBS to bring TV shows like “Dexter” and “Beverley Hills 90210″.“
“We believe in comprehensiveness, and we want to have deals with everybody,” said Jordan Hoffner, the director of content partnerships for YouTube. “We want to be able to give users the most content possible.”
As a You TubeTube, I have had my share of good and bad with the sound and video quality at times. I now some of it reflects on the subscriber but I cant help but think if Google doesn’t take a proactive active approach to fixing things on their end this movie thing might not fly.
Another thing is content, with Hulu’s partnership with NBC, who owns all Fox-related programming, the prospect of You Tube finding quality programming might a huge challenge. And then there is the advertising. You see it on Fancast, the little interruptions in the beginning about three time through the broadcast. It’s annoying and it reminds you why you don’t like TV.
There are a few things that need to be worked out , the content, the quality, the amount of advertising, all the things that make or break your movie experience. But there is an upside with this venture. With over 80 million visitors a month, this will be a lucrative move for Google.
The possibilities with advertising dollars are endless. And you get to watch movies from your PC so it’s a win/win! So with that said, I’m hoping google is able to strike deals with other studios.
like I said I am a You Tube fan, what is good for Google has to be good for me!
