Studies have found that among people who did exercise the risk of cancer would rise if they were not allowing themselves sufficient sleep time (8 hours per night).

New York - Sleep is the time when the body has a chance to rejuvenate. I’m sure you’ve heard the term “beauty sleep” and perhaps even used it yourself, but there is some real validity to that term.

There is no secret that when you get enough sleep, you feel better all around.

Adequate sleep reduces the amount of strain put on your body every day and is especially important if you lead an active, busy lifestyle. The truth is that people who increase their amount of sleep and activity levels greatly decrease their risk of cancer. If they don’t get enough sleep or physical activity, then their risk of developing cancer goes up significantly.

Studies have found that among people who did exercise the risk of cancer would rise if they were not allowing themselves sufficient sleep time (8 hours per night).

People who sleep less than 7 hours a night have a 47% higher risk of developing cancer.

Researchers have not pinpointed exactly why sleep significantly decreases the risk of cancer, but in many studies as amount of sleep goes up cancer goes down.

“We think it’s quite interesting and intriguing. It’s kind of a first look into this. It isn’t something that has been widely studied,” James McClain of the National Cancer Institute, part of the U.S. government’s National Institutes of Health, said in a telephone interview.

There are some researchers who know that while asleep, the body’s immune system activity goes up significantly (one of the reasons we have to sleeps so much when we have the flu or are ill). Sleep give a body time to regenerate, one bodily activity that is seen as necessary to fight the production of cancerous cells.

Overall, regular exercise and adequate sleep will greatly reduce the chances that a person will develop cancer someday.

Not only will your risk of cancer go down but your risk for other ailments like high cholesterol, heart disease, diabetes and obesity will also be greatly reduced.

Remember, no matter what, to try to get enough sleep at night; your body will thank you for it later.
