New York - Today is World AIDS Day. This is the twentieth anniversary of World AIDS Day. The goal of World AIDS Day is to come together as a united world and help to end the AIDS epidemic.

World AIDS Day is held every year on December first. Everyone is supposed to come together and try to raise awareness against the AIDS virus. The day is observed in more than one hundred and ninety countries.
The World Health Organization started World AIDS Day twenty years ago. They wanted people to understand what AIDS patients were going through.

We can all do many things to help AIDS patients. We can treat them nicely and try to understand what they are going through. You should not be afraid of people who have the AIDS virus. Many people are afraid of even touching people who have the AIDS virus.

You do not have to be afraid of touching someone who has the AIDS virus. The only way that you can get the AIDS virus is from transfer of bodily fluids such as blood and semen. There is no reason to be afraid of people who have AIDS. This is one of the reasons why World Aids Day was started. In the eighties the public knew very little about the virus. Many people thought that the only people who could contract the AIDS virus were homosexuals however, that is not the case. Some people found out during that time that you could get the virus from blood transfusions. This is why doctors and nurses have to screen blood that is donated to make sure that the patient is not getting blood that is contaminated with the AIDS virus. The public needs to be properly educated on how the AIDS virus can and cannot be contracted.

People need to help prevent the AIDS virus by practicing safe sex. If you have unprotected sex then you put yourself and your partner at risk for contracting the AIDS virus. You need to use a condom every time that you have sex. The way that many people contract the virus is through having unprotected sex with a sexual partner who may or may not know that they have the virus. You need to protect yourself in order to lessen the chances that you will contract the AIDS virus.

We need to educate children about AIDS. Children are affected by AIDS. Some children have parents with the AIDS virus, or have AIDS themselves. Children need to understand what the AIDS virus is and how to act around people that have the virus.

AIDS patients face an uncertain future AIDS can be fatal for many patients. We need to help those who have the virus cope with their medical status. Hopefully, there will be a cure for the AIDS virus soon so that AIDS can be a thing of the past.
