New York - When it comes to the Internet, more women would rather hug their computer than spend a little “quality time” with their significant other, a survey recently showed.

According to an Intel Corp. survey done in November, out of 2,119 adults 46 percent of women and 30 percent of men would rather give up sex than go without the Internet for two weeks.
The survey shows the one thing many Americans have already known–the Internet has become a permanent fixture in the American home.

When it came to living without Internet access, 65 percent of adults said they couldn’t do it. That number eclipses other things that couldn’t be removed from the daily business of life.

About 39 percent said television subscriptions was a neccessity that couldn’t be lived without. Other items included dining out(20%), clothes shopping(18%), and memberships to gyms(10%).

However, 71 percent also agreed that it was important or very important to have Internet-enabled devices such as laptops or mobile Internet devices like smartphones or at least web browser-enabled phones.
The spike in preference, when it comes to women choosing to surf rather than have sex, could also mean big money for Internet advertisers.

According to an article on www.Marketwatch.com, internet retail sites spiked in average clicks per visitor on Cyber Monday. The article stated that “Activity increases ranged from 500% to 14,500% times the average daily clicks per site.”

Many companies, such as Network Solutions, a leading provider of small business web services, reported that their client base, which reaches 7,000 e-commerce customers, saw a collective 10 percent “year-over-year” increase in sales on Cyber Monday.

However, the news of the strong connection Americans, women in particular, have to the Internet, though surprising at first, is not new.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau in 2006, more than 176,000 people had Internet access at home or work.

When it came to women, 51 percent said they had access in comparison to the 48 percent of men who said they also had access. When it came to married couples, 56 percent said they had access to the Internet at home or work, completely overshadowing the 24 percent of single people who said they had access at home or work.
