New York - This week the House will pass an expansion of the State’s Children’s Health Insurance Program. This is very good news for children. President George W. Bush has not been impressed by the program because he has vetoed it two times during his presidency.

All children deserve to receive adequate medical care. The Children’s Health Insurance Program gives health insurance to children who have families that are having trouble affording health insurance but do not qualify for Medicaid.

The Children’s Health Insurance Program has been revised since the last time that President Bush vetoes it. The program now has a lot of backing behind it. Both Democrats and Republicans are supporting this measure.
Hopefully, President Bush and President Elect Barack Obama will not veto this program that children so desperately need. The economy is in disarray. Recently, Congress approved a bailout that cost tax payers seven hundred billion dollars. This bailout was to help the financial institutions in the United States of America. There was basically no oversight of the bailout money. Taxpayers still do not know what their tax dollars were spent on. Many Americans were not happy about the bailout because it did not help every day Americans. Homes are being foreclosed on and people are struggling financially.

Many parents are being fired from their jobs. When this happens, they lose their health insurance benefits. This means that if a child becomes sick, parents are hesitant to take them to the doctor because they cannot afford to pay for the visit or medications if necessary.

Parents should have help with their health insurance costs. The cost of living has increased over the years and the average household income has decreased. It is very expensive to purchase health insurance coverage for your family if your employer does not offer you medical insurance.

Every child deserves the right to be healthy and get the best medical care possible. Even prisoners get medical care so why shouldn’t tax dollars go towards helping children stay healthy? If children are healthier then they will do better in school. Education and health care should be important issues in the United States of America.

Congress is doing a great thing for children by helping more children have access to health care coverage. It is great to see that children’s health issues are at the forefront in the minds of politicians. Hopefully, every child in the United States of America can have medical coverage in the next few years under our next president Barack Obama.
