Farrah Fawcett and her struggle with anal cancer

“Farrah’s Story” success even as actress fades away

There is some drama that Hollywood simply cannot replicate. There are some stories that are more powerful than a script and big screen release.

Such is the case for “Farrah’s Story,” a heart-wrenching documentary that details actress Farrah Fawcett and her struggle with anal cancer. Described as painful and uplifting, the documentary, which aired on NBC, drew almost nine million viewers when it aired Friday night.

Produced by Alana Stewart, a longtime friend of Fawcett, the documentary was originally intended to be shown exclusively to friends and family, as a special commemoration. However, given the powerful nature of Fawcett’s story, it was agreed to air it on national television to allow all members of the public to both grieve with Fawcett’s family as well as to be encouraged by the undeterred strength and faith exhibited by the sixty-two year old star as she nears her last days.

The filming holds nothing back, showing each difficult moment of the battle, as per Fawcett’s request. This includes the good moments and the setbacks, even the difficult side-effects of the treatments.

The timing of the documentary is especially poignant, given recent reports that the former “Charlie’s Angels” star is finally losing her two year battle. Despite her perseverance, Fawcett is said to be bed-ridden as her friends and family spend time with her in her last days. It is even reported that Fawcett’s son, Redmond, was allowed to visit his mother one last time from his current incarceration stemming from drug related charges.

I’m not a tabloid reader for obvious reasons, the number one being that they twist information until it no longer resembles the truth, but instead creates pain and heartache for those individuals that they target each week. So I haven’t been reading about Farrah’s struggle with cancer. I had heard that she had Anal Cancer, but seeing her story the other night has touched my heart so deeply, all I can say is that I pray for you every day, Farrah, that this painful struggle ends peacefully, and that you know how your smile, your talent and your truthfulness has touched millions. You will live on as a symbol of what true courage, dignity, and graciousness really looks like. Love to you and your family and friends. God Bless You. And I do believe that you will still be able to touch the rain, and I will think of you when it splashes down on my face.

I watched farrah’s Story, I was touched, I cried… just to see what she is going through.. the fight in Farrah “you go girl” It doesn’t matter what terminal illness you have, it’s the fight in oneself. I recently lost my mother to multiple organ failure on 3/24/09, due to diabetes. My mother fought her illness for 7 years, and she was a fighter. I have always been a fan of Farrah. Farrah, don’t give up you are a true fighter.

My thoughts and pryers go out to you and your family.

Farrah thank you for your story. I’ve always admired you in your shows on tv. May God Reach Down to you and heal your pain and suffering. You have fought the good fight and made people aware of what cancer patients have to go through, I never really knew what went on with it. May President Obama get funding for anal cancer research.

Thoughts and prayers to you and your family. Don’t give up you are a heck of a FIGHTER.

Farrah, your story touched me deeply, you made me laugh, and you made me cry. Your sweetness showed through all of your struggles, tears, and joy.
I do believe that God will let you dip your wings into the rain, not for a second, nor a moment, but for eternity if you wish. The heavens may weep for your suffering, but will open wide for your arrival. You have accomplished more than you will ever know with your honest and poignant documentary. I have watched your story three times, I am awestruck at your bravery.
I will always think of you and your bravery, especially when the rain falls.
Farrah, you have risen above stardom, you have reached the STARS!
Blessings to you and your family.

Farrah, you have led an amazing life - an envious life for most. Your strength and passion remain as your fight for your very life continues. It’s hard to know what the God/dess has in mind for us or where our stories will end - or how we ultimately will reach or touch people. It clearly is NOT in our control. It’s almost a miracle itself that of all the ways you had to reach out to and touch people in your lifetime, that this illness would perhaps touch more than ever.

Your story has touched me deeply. They say that Life is measured not by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away. I believe the impact of YOUR life is also measured by the love you have gathered around you. You have clearly lived many years in a very short time as the love of those around you is profound - the amount that gathers with many lifetimes. May you remain in the light. Betty

    Farrah,
My heart feels such tugging as you struggle to win this battle with your cancer. It makes me angry that someone with your sense of life is having to struggle so much just to stay alive. I feel real pain as I keep up with your progress.
I would that I could give you the healthy body parts you need to survive this… When you win over this nasty disease then I will send you a similar note with a bit of humor in it.
My warmest thoughts and prayers are with you, Ryan and Redmond.
You are full of fight and determination… so, you go girl!
    Blessed Be!
    Ro
